Bile Duct Cancer (Cholangiocarcinoma)

Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare cancer affecting the bile ducts that drain bile from the liver. As it can occur anywhere within the bile ducts, it can occur in the liver (intrahepatic), or outside the liver (extrahepatic) including within the pancreas. Treatment is often difficult and may involve combinations of surgery, radiologically placed drains and stents, or through a special gastroscopy procedure called an ERCP. Surgery to remove these cancers is challenging, and should be only performed by HPB specialists.
